UP Colleges, Universities to resume regular classes from today amid strict adherence to COVID-19 Guidelines

UP Colleges, Universities Reopening News: As per the latest update, the Higher Education Department of Uttar Pradesh Government has permitted colleges, universities and higher education institutes to reopen from today i.e. 15th February 2021 onwards. According to the official circular issued by the Department, the reopening of colleges in Uttar Pradesh is to be carried out in strict compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). All higher education institutions in the state have been closed for nearly 11 months now, since March 2020 when they were closed down following the outbreak of the pandemic. But, with falling number of COVID-19 cases and the urgent need to address the academic priorities of the college student, the state government has now permitted reopening of colleges.

Official Circular issued by Higher Education Department

To confirm the development, the Department of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh has issued a circular which confirms the permission to reopen colleges, universities and higher education institutions in the state following COVID-19 precautions. The circular reads “All universities, degree colleges and other educational institutions of higher learning across the state will function normally from February 15. These institutions were reopened with restrictions on November 23, 2020.” The circular issued by Special Secretary of Higher Education Department Abdul Samad has also been sent to Vice-Chancellors and Directors of Higher Education of all the private and state universities of Uttar Pradesh.

COVID-19 Guidelines to be Followed

With colleges and higher education institutions slated to reopen from today, it is important for students, teachers and other non-teaching staff members to understand and follow the COVID-19 guidelines to ensure safe and infection free campus. In line with the guidelines, students and teachers will have to mandatorily wear face masks while they are on campus and also follow social distancing. Moreover, institutes will have to get the complete campus, including all the common areas, classroom and even laboratories, completely sanitise before reopening. Attendance in the universities and colleges will not be mandatory and online classes will continue, as per the UGC guidelines. In case any student, teacher or staff member exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, they are to be immediately sent home and testing should be done and results should be recorded, as per the guidelines.
